artist statement
The creative process brings me balance, fulfillment and healing unlike anything else in my life. I am excited by the flicker of an idea, the image of a work in progress, the memory of art materials in my studio awaiting my return. After painting for almost 40 years, I truly understand and appreciate the place art has in my life and in my heart.
I look at the beauty of the natural world and try to capture the interplay of color, pattern and light to create works of art infused with imagination and joy. Using bold colors and careful design, my style is unique, contemporary and recognizable.
My inspiration comes from many sources. Having spent many years traveling and painting throughout the world, I am touched by the incredible natural beauty I see around me. My home in West Sonoma County has been a constant source of fascination and gratitude. Everywhere I look I see a painting.
Ever since my mother took me to the
Brooklyn Museum as a young child, I wanted to
be an artist. In 1972, I
had the privilege of working with Baila Feldman, a remarkable artist living in
the Berkeley Hills, who recognized my creative spark and encouraged me to pick
up a paintbrush. Thus began a lifelong love
affair with art.
With no formal training, but a
yearning to improve my talents, I sketched and painted for years in many exotic
places, developing a distinctive style. From 1983 to 1989 I took art classes at
Ventura Community College, where I focused on silkscreen printmaking and
watercolor. I have painted and sold numerous pieces of art, been nationally
published and won many awards through the years.
